Lindsay Martin is a, second-year Hillman Entrepreneur at the University of Maryland, College Park studying High Technology Commercialization as part of the Individuals Studies Program. Her interests include big data, tech startups, mobile applications, branding, and business mode Her background includes a firm foundation in design, engineering, and business management accumulated over the years from various experiences and prior concentrations. As an engineering intern at General Motors Corporation (GM), Martin used her knowledge of systems thinking and lean manufacturing principles to design a point of use system for a truck manufacturing facility. The pilot system cut repair part search times by up to 40% during robotic cell breakdowns.
Martin has now turned her attention to the world of technology startups.
She serves as Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of FWDLit, LLC. FWDLit, or Forward Ladies in Tech, is a mobile solutions company that she started with a friend in hopes of inspiring other female entrepreneurs to launch fearless tech startups. Launching this company earned her national recognition, selected as a Top 10 Finalist for Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2013 College Entrepreneur of the Year.
By way of Prince George’s Community College, the Hillman Entrepreneurs Program has granted Martin access to the University of Maryland, College Park, a mecca for innovation and entrepreneurship education. Now, Lindsay is able to focus solely on higher learning and for that, she is extremely appreciative!
Jazmyne Claggett was born & raised in Hyattsville, MD. She Received an Associates of Science in Engineering and Associates of the Arts in General Studies from Prince Georges Community College in May 2014. She is currently a Junior Mechanical Engineering student in the A. James Clark School of Engineering; minoring in Entrepreneurship Technology.
In 2011, Jazmyne was named a 2011 NASA Scholar by the West Virginia Space Grant Consortium. In 2013, she was recognized by Prince George’s Community College for her “Outstanding dedication, commitment and Leadership.” She is a proud member of NESBE (National Society of Black Engineers). Jazmyne was inducted into two of the oldest honor societies at UMD: Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma in April of 2014. Jazmyne was also honored by the A. James Clark School of Engineering and the Center for minorities in STEM for her Academic Excellence at the University around that time. Jazmyne was selected out of hundreds of students to participate in the NASA District of Columbia Space Grant Consortium's K-12 STEM Educator Program. Thirty-one students from 5 universities in the DC area are participating in this new and exciting NASA-funded program designed to support the next generation of K-12 STEM educators.
In her spare time, Jazmyne is committed to community service and development. She volunteers as a Throws Coach for the Prince George's Community College Track & Field Team. She also volunteers with the North Arundel County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Through this organization, Jazmyne is the Lead Engineering Mentor for the youth involved in the EMBODI Program. She aspires to start a non-profit specializing in the introduction of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to underrepresented youth.
Jazmyne has had her fair share of research experience also. In 2011, she researched spectrometers in Electrical Engineering at Penn State University. Her research article titled "Observation of Quadrupole Resonance Transitions Using a Continuous-Wave Spectrometer” was published by the National Science Foundation shortly after. During the summer in 2014, Jazmyne traveled to Rochester Hills, Michigan to do automotive research at Oakland University in relationship with GM. She is currently collaborating on an article from that research titled “Investigation of Scuffing Properties of Aluminum-Silicon Alloys.”
